How do you evaluate your place in the dangerous goods transportation sector as OMSAN Logistics? Which services did you sign in 2020?

With nearly 25 years of experience in the field of dangerous goods transportation, we are constantly increasing our customer portfolio as an important player in the sector; We are growing in the fields of industrial gas, fuel oil, LPG, bottled gas, and waste motor oil transportation. Finally, we added the Fuel and LPG transportation operations of Güzel Enerji, which joined OYAK, to our portfolio. We also serve BP, another brand that does not compromise on the principles of Health, Safety, Environment and Security (HSE-S), in the same field.

In addition to this cooperation, we participated in the ‘Hazard Hunter’ program, which was implemented by BP to increase the risk perception and awareness of drivers. Within the scope of this program, we were proud to be awarded this year with three of our drivers who contributed to the prevention of accidents by making qualified Unsafe Situation and Behavior notifications, identifying situations where safety is at risk, and contributing to the prevention of accidents.

Within the scope of cylinder gas transportation, we carry out industrial gas transportation to hospitals and production facilities that consume industrial gas in five different regions of the country for another customer we started to serve last year. In addition, we carry out our operations throughout the country by expanding our fleet and the geography we serve in the field of industrial gas. We carry out all these operations with our SRC-5 certified drivers and our fleet in compliance with ADR standards.

We owe our strong presence and preference in the sector to the fact that we have been fulfilling the HSSE requirements, which is the inevitable priority of the sector, at a high level for years. We provide all our solution-oriented processes, from driver training to risk management, with our expert human resources and our deep-rooted structure that can provide integrated service.

What types of items do you carry? Can we learn about the sectors you serve the most?

As OMSAN Logistics, we transport fuel (gasoline and diesel derivatives and LPG), industrial gas (oxygen, argon, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, propane, etc.) and waste motor oil in the field of energy transportation. Within the scope of a different operation area; As a logistics company authorized by PETDER (Petroleum Industry Association), which acts within the framework of the Waste Oil Control Regulation and aims to dispose of it in accordance with European Union principles, we collect approximately 12 thousand tons of waste motor oil throughout the country annually. In this way, we contribute to the disposal of waste oils without polluting the environment.

Dangerous goods transportation is one of the most risky logistics services. What are the features and advantages that make OMSAN stand out in this type of transportation?

It is of great importance to prioritize safety in dangerous goods transportation, to raise awareness of our drivers and to work with expert human resources. By keeping HSSE standards at the highest level for all operations, we give confidence to our customers with our experienced human resources, which we have been providing for many years. On the other hand, we consider it a privilege to work with brands that do not hesitate to put operational safety above all else.

It takes one month for our drivers to complete their training orientation processes after they are hired and start the operation alone. During this period, drivers receive trainings that will help keep OMSAN Logistics expectations where they should be in terms of HSSE, such as fatigue, anger, stress, safety, along with all sectoral and legal trainings.

By following the working hours of our drivers daily, we check their fatigue before each operation and whether they are suitable for the operation. In all shipments, we follow the speed, sudden stop and stop reports of the vehicles and provide feedback to the drivers within the scope of the continuous improvement process. Being aware of the importance of on-site and in-person training, we carry out practical exercises in the regions with the participation of drivers, taking into account the Covid measures. Another issue that may pose a risk in the sector is the risks that may occur on the voyage routes. We evaluate all routes before use in order to predict these risks, to ensure continuous dynamic risk assessment of drivers and to control weather and road conditions.

Can we get information about your ADR configuration and fleet?

With our own goods fleet consisting of more than 250 vehicles in accordance with ADR standards, we travel 15 million kilometers annually and more than 40 thousand kilometers daily. We carry out all these operations with our SRC-5 certified drivers.  We fully comply with ADR in all processes of operation, including the maintenance needs of vehicles.

We provide services tailored to the needs of our customers with the mission of a solution partner. We build with them from the creation of the operational structure to all other processes. We determine vehicle structures and critical performance indicators and create a fleet structure and an optimal business model in accordance with ADR standards.
